Don’t put off your dental health, 4 ways to make sure your teeth stay healthy!

1: Choose a healthy diet with low added sugar. Most manufactured foods have added sugar including “low fat” options. In fact, usually the lower the fat content in a food the higher the sugar will be. Did you know, the average Australian consumes more than 27 teaspoons of sugar a day! That’s A lot!

According to the American heart association (AHA) the maximum amount of added sugars you should eat in a day are just 6 teaspoons. That’s 25 grams of added sugar. The recommended amount of Sugar should be less than %10 of our total daily energy intake. It’s also suggested that an added reduction below %5 would have added health benefits.

Not only does excess sugar greatly impact your overall health, weight and blood pressure, it greatly increases your chances of tooth decay. An unhealthy diet full of sugar and “junk food” is a surefire way to destroy your teeth. However, preventing tooth decay is easy, if you are vigilant and follow a diet low in sugar.

2: Choosing a regular cleaning regime is another great way to avoid tooth decay and help your teeth last longer. A regime designed for you by your family dental professional is an excellent way to ensure your dental hygiene stays on track. Usually this will include brushing twice daily and using floss or interdental brushes.

3: Choose an experienced Dentist who comes recommended. Having a regular family dentist who you have confidence in and who knows your mouth is important for lifelong dental health. At Chatswood Dental Care we understand the value of having a regular family dentist and we are commited to making sure your teeth are well looked after through their lifetime.

4: Having regular dental checkups and professional cleaning by your dental professional is essential to good dental health. You wouldn’t let your car continue running without having it regularly serviced, would you? And nor should you let your dental health take a backseat. Picking up potential issues early means simpler treatment will be needed. Have you ever wondered why the American Dental Association and your dentist recommend you come back every six months? It’s because regular dental visits are essential for the maintenance of healthy teeth and gums.
